P2210050.jpg (188212 bytes) The villa at Uttara (a modern suburb of Dhaka) which houses S21YP.  The 40 foot bamboo on the roof carries a 3 band inverted vee antenna for 40, 30 & 20 metres.  The feeders are strapped and used as a capacity loaded vertical for 160 & 80 metres.

The taxi is known as a "baby Taxi" and carries 1-4 people depending on needs of the moment!  They are the same as the Indian Bajaj three wheeler.  Also note the overloaded rickshaw 3 wheeled cycle originally designed for carrying 1-2 people but usually adapted to carry anything from bags of rice to jute and other commodities.

Refreshments on the Ashuganj ferry.  They are sweet fruits. One is Mango Chutney and dried fruits mixed with sugar.
Vehicle ferry at Ashuganj crossing the Meghna river.  There are between 1 and 3 ferries operating at one time.  The crossing usually takes 15 minutes but it can take up to 2 hours to get on, depending on the traffic.  Each ferry can handle up to 8-10 buses/lorries and 6-8 cars.  The ferry crossing is on the main Dhaka to Sylhet highway about 70 KM north of Dhaka.

Nuttals have a UK funded grant to build a new bridge to span the river at this point and it will be approximately 800 meters long.

The standard of road safety is very poor with accidents common on the main highways.
Local 11kV to 230V AC power distribution.  The main source of noise in the urban environment which must get propagated widely accounting for the high noise level in Dhaka.
